Pink Shirt Day Tomorrow
Thanks to our leadership team for promoting kindness tomorrow and every day. Leadership students will count the number of pink shirts in each CORE tomorrow. The CORE class with the most pink shirts will be invited to participate in a “Kindness Lunch” on Friday. Pizza and Hershey’s “hugs and kisses” will be provided!
Basketball Season Winding Down
Congratulations to our Grade 8 Boys’ Basketball Team who won the North Okanagan Championships in a thrilling victory over Vernon Secondary School at SMS last week. Thanks to Mr. Rodwell and Craig Turner (Rhys’s Dad) for their dedication to the team and excellent coaching. Our Grade 8 girls did very well and were excellent ambassadors for SMS under the coaching of Mrs. Limber and Mme Keenan. Grade 6/7 Zone Playoffs for both boys and girls take place at SMS next week. Thanks to the many teachers coaching and the great support coaching from our grade 8 players.
Drop Off and Pick up at SMS
Hopefully we have seen the last of the snow! The high snow banks have certainly added to the complexity of our parking lot. Thanks to our custodian, Quinton, Mr. Rosman, and our SD 83 Works Department for their hard work to keep SMS cleared of snow and safe for students. Please remember to follow the parking lot flow signs. Our buses have the right of way and our drivers appreciate parents stopping above the crosswalk to allow them to turn into the bus lane. We are fortunate to have Wella on the crosswalk between the Field of Dreams and SMS in the morning and Kari after school; please take advantage of this as an excellent spot to drop off and pick up students and also reduce congestion. Unfortunately, we have a few parents choosing not to follow the signs (no left turn into lower parking lot between 7:45 and 8:15 and no left turn onto 30th); this creates a back up of traffic and frustration for the majority of parents who are following the signs. Thanks to the parents for your waves in the morning – Mr. Rosman and I appreciate your friendly smiles (especially on those really cold mornings!).

Second Term Report Cards
The months between the Winter Break and Spring Break are a key learning time for our students. Our classrooms have been busy places of learning, and the academic tone in the school has continued to be very positive. Thanks to our teachers and CEAs for assisting students in making the most of these key months, our students for your hard work, and to parents for your support at home. Second term report cards available on Parent Connect on March 15th. In addition to the learning in our classrooms, I continue to be amazed by the numerous opportunities available for students during the lunch break. I know our students appreciate the extra time and effort our staff makes to provide a variety of interesting ways to spend the noon hour break.
With just over two weeks until our Spring Break (and hopefully some warmer weather), please remember you are always welcome to call, email or stop by to talk with Dee, Kyla, Mr. Rosman or me in the office with any questions, suggestions or concerns. Please check out our new website which will be up and running by the end of the week as well. We will email the link out when it becomes live. Thanks for taking the time to read our updates. Please continue to check our Facebook page for weekly posts about all the great things happening at SMS!
