February News

Don’t miss the parent session on the new graduation program, Wednesday, February 6th from 6:30-8 pm at the Sullivan Campus Theatre.

Pat Duncan, Superintendent of Learning at the BC Ministry of Education, will discuss the transformational process of the redesigned curriculum as well as the specifics of the new Grad program.

It’s cold out there!

Mme Jègues and Mr. Matheson are dressed for winter!  Please make sure your students come prepared!  We gave students the option of staying indoors today.  Thanks to the many teachers who have clubs and activities running at lunch, and to Mr. Smith who opened up the bleachers for a large audience for intramural badminton!  For a list of noon hour activities and clubs, please see the January blog which has a link.  We are fortunate to have so many staff members sponsoring a wide variety of opportunities (even on warm days!).

Twin Day was a big success.

Below are a few photos, please see our Facebook page for many more!  Thanks to our leadership team for organizing this fun day!

Attendance and Art!

These beautiful birds are one of the many displays around the school.  Thanks to our talented artists for the great work!  A reminder that if your child is away, please call the school.  If you are leaving a voice mail for Cinnamon, please be sure to spell the last name – the messages are often hard to hear, especially when parents are phoning using bluetooth ( but thanks for using hands free!).

Staff Changes at SMS

Orange team students and staff know that Mrs. Brennan was hired as the vice-principal at SAS Sullivan Campus.  We miss her but wish her the best!  We are fortunate to have Mrs. Heibert working with her classes Wednesday-Friday and are interviewing for the Social Studies teaching portion of the job tomorrow.  Mme Tait is returning from maternity leave after Spring Break and will be working in Mme Lafortune’s class on Fridays, Mme Weir’s class on Wednesdays and Ms Cecco’s class on Thursdays.  Ms. Cecco begins her maternity leave after Spring Break.  We can’t wait to meet the new addition to the Mr. Kenny/Ms. Cecco family!  We are pleased that Ms. Martinson will be finishing the year with Ms. Cecco’s class on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Term 3 Explorations in full swing

January 30th was the first day of our term 3 explorations.  Term 2 marks will be reported on our next formal report card which is available on Parent Connect on March 14th.

Pirate Loppet a Roaring Success

SMS was very well represented at the annual Larch Hills Pirate Loppet with over 60 students enjoying the beautiful day.  Thanks to Mr. Rodwell and Mr. Woodhurst for accompanying the students and to Mme Weir for all of her work as an organizer for all of the participating schools.
