Important Updates for Parents & Families
Many students are forgetting to pack their mask for school. This is costing the school quite a bit of money and it must be frustrating for parents because we know you want your kids to be safe.
Does your child have a handy way to keep track of everything they need for their day?
Do you hear worried, loud voices every morning as your kids are frantically looking for their school stuff? Teaching our kids to find their own organizational style is an ongoing journey, for sure!
Here are some ideas I hope you find helpful.
1) DYI Mudroom – Hooks by the Door
At the end of the school day place everything you need to fly out the door by the door, so you can avoid running around the house when it’s time to go
2) Make “Launch Pad” – for the Floor Area by the Door
Before everyone heads to bed, backpacks can be placed by shoes or boots on a designated mat by the door. Items can be quickly stuffed into the bags that night – masks, a bit of spare change, school supplies and homework items.
3) Label, Label, Label
Between bus rides, quick drop offs, the long days at school, and extracurricular activities, it’s easy for things to get misplaced. Please make sure masks are labelled with a sharpie. Ironing a fabric mask after using a sharpie can really help set the ink to last even longer through the wash.
Costumes at School – Friday October 30
Students are welcome to come to the school in costume – however they must follow these costume points:
1) no blood depicted (please save for the evening trick or treat adventures)
2) no costume weapons (including swords, knives, firearms of any sort during school hours)
3) no masks except masks as per COVID protocols – costume masks partial or full face will impede this safety protocol – in addition costume masks are too distracting to learn and can be broken (please save for evening “trick or treat” fun)
4) no hoods or hoodies that prevent a staff member identifying the student immediately
Costumes must adhere to the Dress Code as outlined in our SMS hand book:
Clothing with logos and sayings that promote the use of products that are illegal, racially offensive, contain sexual innuendos or profanity, or promote any form of harassment or violence are not permitted.
Logos, images, or materials representing Liquor, or any other controlled substance are prohibited at school.
Clothing cannot be a distraction to others within the learning environment. Revealing or see-through clothing is not accepted.
Three Body Areas have been specifically identified as areas to be covered.
a) Torso covered – therefore navel is covered
b) Gluteal fold should not show, therefore Gluteus Maximus is covered
c) Chest area covered and secured for movement in class and group situations”
The final determination on the suitability of a costume will rest with the principal or principal designate.
Kind regards to you and your loved ones,
Sydney Griffith
