Ms. C’s grade 6/7 class has completed a very interesting novel study that they have shared in a wonderful display here at SMS. We certainly do not want you to miss it so here is a quick synopsis of the story and the photos of our students’ work. We hope you enjoy these lovely 3D clay depictions!

Sincerely,

Sydney Griffith,

Principal

I respectfully acknowledge that my place of work is on the unceded traditional territory of the Secwepemc people.

Synopsis

Maniac Magee was written author Jerry Spinelli and published in 1990. This story explores the themes of racism and inequality, as it follows the life of an orphan boy looking for a home in the fictional town of Two Mills. Two Mills is harshly segregated between the East and West, blacks and whites. He becomes a local legend for his athletic feats, his kind helpfulness, and his ignorance of sharp racial boundaries in the town. It is popular in middle school studies and has been used in social studies on the premises of reaction to racial identity and reading.
