Return to school information
Hello SMS Families,
All families should have received an email from the district informing you that the province has delayed the return of students from winter break until January 10. This letter is also posted on our SMS website.
The intention for the return to in-person school attendance next week is to support students with exceptional needs as well as to support essential health care service workers with childcare. Primarily, this support is for students under the age of 12 but that’s not to say we can’t make accommodations for specific family situations.
The Ministry of Education has stipulated; however, that we will accommodate a limited number of students should they need to return to school for the following reasons:
- Children with exceptional needs (social, emotional, academic, medical)
- If you are a parent or legal guardian who works in the healthcare system and you need the school to support the care of your child.
If you require your child to attend school based on the reasons indicated above, please contact us directly via email. There is a District form to complete that we will send you.
Note that we expect very few students to be in the school during this week. We are still sorting out exactly what school will look like for the very few who may attend.
Please do not send your child to school without first contacting Ms. Griffith, Mme Weir or Mrs. Lemaire.
While we were looking forward to a full in-person return after these winter holidays, we cannot alter the reality of our current situation. We will use the opportunity provided by this phased re-start to best prepare for next steps in your child’s education. Our teachers and staff will be in the building all week planning and preparing for students to return.
Feel free to reach out if you have questions.
- Please Note
- The SMS Office will open the morning of Tuesday, January 4.
- We will, however, be keeping a close eye on our emails.
More information will be coming to all families in the days to follow both from the Shuswap Middle School and the SD 83.
Kind regards to you and your loved ones,
| Sydney Griffith (She, Her, Hers) Principal |
